On Saturday, July 31st at American Top Team Miramar ,Mixed Fighting Alliance, (M.F.A.),  held an open tryout. Their goal was to find new, untapped, mixed martial arts talent in South Florida. MFA is a fight sport promotions company that was started in 2008. Since MFA’s inception it has held two professional events.  New Generation 1 – Bad Blood, which featured the debut of professional wrestler and MMA star Bobby Lashley and New Generation II, held on June 25th.  Mixed Fighting Alliance is now in the process of developing their next fight card.  New Generation III will be held at Florida International University, on September 18th,  2010.

You can't be a "fighter" without a good stand up!

The MFA public auditions were one of the most professionally ran, comprehensive tryouts we have ever covered. Throughout the day, every aspect of the testing was overseen by trainers and respected professional fighters like Ailton Barbosa. After warm ups, the prospective fighters were put through a series of work outs to ascertain their overall physical and cardiovascular health. This workout was rigorous but, all of the warriors were able to tuff out the exercises.

The next trail faced by the participants was a ground fighting demonstration. The fighters were broken up into their respected weight classes and asked to wrestle each other.  The attendees would face off while standing and try to get take downs and finally submissions.

Excellent grappling was one of the skills that was required to make the cut for the MFA...

Following the ju jitsu portion, head gear and gloves were donned and the stand up section of the tryouts began.  The action was starting to get serious and the tension level was on the rise. The fighters had been told that after this light kickboxing spar they would be put in the cage for one five minute round of combat. Afterwards the Mixed Fighting Alliance would make their decision.

During the competitive portions of the tryouts, Jorge De la Noval of MFA and Andre Fleites of TKO Management, paired up the fighters on paper and created a mini fight card. The last part of the day would take place in an MMA cage. Names were called and rules explained. Two by two the fighters entered the enclosure to compete and prove their worth. This was make it are break it time. Every combatant should be proud because they all left everything they had on the mat.  MFA had some difficult choices to make.

The Atemi Cast would like to thank everyone involved with the Mixed Fighting Alliance, TKO Management, and American Top Team Miramar. These groups were very efficient and treated us extremely well. We would all so like to give shout outs to Action Fight League, Left Hook Productions, and MMA to the MAX and give them props for coming out and showing their support to MFA and combat sports in South Florida.
